Centre enquiry and appeals procedure

Centre enquiry and appeals procedure

Should a centre wish to enquire or appeal about a decision which they feel affects them negatively, they are required to follow the outlined procedure below:

  1. Centres should initially make contact with the Policy and HR Director via the enquiries email address to determine if there has been a misunderstanding in how LRN requirements have been interpreted;
  2. Where a centre feels there are grounds for appeal, they must present their concerns in writing to the Policy and HR Director;
  3. The Policy and HR Director will acknowledge receipt of the centre’s appeal, in writing, within 10 working days;
  4. The reasons for the centre’s appeal will be investigated by a member of the Senior Management Team;
  5. The outcome of the review will be communicated to the centre within 30 calendar days;
  6. Should the centre wish to appeal the outcome of the initial review, they can contact the Policy and HR Director who will appoint an independent reviewer (LRN’s Appeals Panel) in order to seek a review of the reasons for the appeal and the initial response.
  7. The centre will be informed of the decision within 10 working days;
  8. The decision of the Appeals Panel will be deemed final and not subject to further appeal.

We acknowledge the independent member will not have any day to day contact with LRN, its qualifications or units, including assessment.

 The Appeals Panel reserves the right to seek additional information or to extend the timescales for responding to the centre – in both cases, the centre will be informed in writing.

Grounds for submitting an appeals (centres)

The following section includes advice for centres as to the grounds for submitting an appeal.  Please note a centre’s dissatisfaction with the outcome of a centre based decision, in itself, is not a reason for lodging an appeal. The centre must demonstrate there were reasons for their being rejected as a centre.

Sufficient grounds for lodging an appeal:

  • Misdirection by a member of LRN’s staff as to how to complete the application form;
  • Incorrect information provided, by LRN, in the submission of relevant documents to support the centre’s application;

Insufficient grounds for lodging an appeal:

We acknowledge the independent member will not have any day to day contact with LRN, its qualifications or units, including assessment.

The Appeals Panel reserves the right to seek additional information or to extend the timescales for responding to the centre – in both cases, the centre will be informed in writing.

  • Disagreement with the decision of the centre inspector following an approval visit;
  • Misinterpretation of the advice and guidance provided within LRN documentation (particularly if the centre did not clarify the information, in writing, prior to the centre submitting its application);
  • Lateness by the centre in submitting its application or supporting documentation .
